Our Many Wharves

Lower west pubnicoThe Bon Temps region of Argyle truly is a region "shaped by the sea". Our wharves are much more than "parking" for the impressive fleets of boats that fish from here, they are also the heart of many of our communities.

As with the many wharves that are found in our region, the fishermen you will find are proud of their livelihood and more than willing to answer questions.

You will find interpretive panels at the following locations:

  • Wedgeport Tuna Wharf- located off of Highway 334
  • Lower East Pubnico Wharf- located off of Highway 3
  • Dennis Point Wharf- located off of Highway 335 in Lower West Pubnico
  • Sluice Point Wharf- located off of Highway 308
  • Camp Cove Wharf- located off of Highway 3 in Argyle

From June-October, join us for "Living Wharves" skills demonstrations. Join both active and retired fishermen at community wharves throughout the region to learn their stories and try your hand at fishing skills. Hear about storms and working conditions, bravery and skills. Try your hand at splicing (braiding) rope and tying knots. It's much harder than it looks, and a lot of fun to try!

In Argyle, plan on attending these free demonstrations from 1:30-4pm at the following wharves:

  • Each Monday at the Dennis Point Wharf, Lower West Pubnico
  • Each Wednesday at the Wedgeport Tuna Wharf, Lower Wedgeport
