Intelivote will be handling our electronic voting for the 2020 municipal and school board elections, and they have provided a valuable document to answer any questions you may have. Some of the questions discussed are:

• Who will get a Voter Instruction Letter with a PIN to vote in the election?
• What if I don’t get a PIN in the mail by Election Day?
• Can anyone tell how I voted if they know my PIN?
• What happens if I access the voting system and am presented with incorrect candidates for my district or ward?

Voter Qualifications - Municipal Elections

• You are at least 18 years or older and a Canadian citizen on the first advance polling day in an election
• You have been ordinarily residing in the Province for a period of six (6) months immediately preceding the first advance polling day; and
• You are a resident of the Municipality of Argyle immediately before the first advance polling day
• You are not otherwise disqualified to vote in the municipal and School Board elections

You are entitled to vote using the Internet or telephone under By-Law 32, the Alternative Voting By-Law.

Voter Qualifications - School Board Elections

You qualify to vote for the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) IF:

• You meet the basic qualifications AND
• You are an “Entitled Parent” or “Entitled Person” whose first language learned and still understood is French;
• You received your primary school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program; or
• Any of your children have received or are receiving primary or secondary school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program. A French Immersion program is NOT a French-first-language program.

You must confirm your status as an Entitled Parent or Entitled Person by requesting a ballot for the election of the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial.

From the Education Act of Nova Scotia:

Entitled Parent and Entitled Person Definition (Conseil scolaire acadien provincial – CSAP)

• 3 (h) “entitled parent” means a parent who is a citizen of Canada and
• (i) whose first language learned and still understood is French,
• (ii) who received his or her primary school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program, or
• (iii) of whom any child has received or is receiving primary or secondary school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program;
• (i) “entitled person” means an entitled parent or a person who, not being an entitled parent, would be an entitled parent if the person were a parent;

Ways to Vote

Here’s how:

Internet OR telephone

• Starts at 7 am on Monday, October 5
• Ends at 7 pm on Saturday, October 17
• 24/7 from the comfort of your own home; OR,
• anywhere in the world that has a computer with internet access OR a telephone
• IMPORTANT – Please make sure you are on the List of Electors and have received an Information Letter containing your unique Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Am I on the Voter List?

Check to make sure you are on the List of Electors – it’s easy to do and important – here’s why…

To ensure that you receive your Voter Information Letter that contains:

• a unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) that gives you access to voting by Internet or by telephone during the Advance Poll dates; and
• information on when and where to vote electronically during the voting period

This is why we need to ensure your information is correct:

• your full name (first, middle, last) – many people have the same first and last names; to ensure the spelling is correct
• your date of birth – some people have exactly the same name as someone else and the same address; for example father and son
  • your DOB will be used to establish your unique PIN
• your civic address determines where you vote and who your candidates are, both for Municipal Council and for School Board
• your mailing address is required so that Canada Post can ensure your Voter Information Letter is delivered to you

NOTE – Your civic address is your civic # + street name + community.

Only those persons who meet the age, residency and citizenship requirements are eligible to vote in the municipal and school board elections.

Only those electors who have contacted the Elections Office to confirm if that they are on the List of Electors with their current information will receive their Voter Information Letter, which includes information such as where, when and how to vote in the upcoming election. Much of these details have changed due to the municipal electoral district boundary changes and voters will now vote by phone and internet in the Advance Polls - but only those with their Voter Information Card will have their unique PIN number to access the phone and internet options..

Due to the number of electors in the district, the EARLIER the BETTER.

* Districts 4, 7 & 8 municipal elections are acclaimed. If you live in those districts and are eligible, you can still vote for the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) election electronically in the comfort of your home or at the polling locations on your Voter Information Letter.
