Day Camp Counselor

Position Status

Reporting
This position reports to the Day Camp Director.

Description Overview
The position of Day Camp Counselor has the responsibility to ensure that all the children at the day camp has a positive recreation experience while in their care. This means that the children’s safety both physical and emotional are being met. The Day Camp counselor has the responsibility to treat all children equally and offer programs and activities that are age and skill level appropriate. The Day Camp Counselor will be a caring adult and a role model for the children.

The Day Camp Counselor will build into the activities ways for children to make friends while at Day Camp. The Counselor will also have knowledge and skills on how to manage conflict, bullying and intimidation. The Counselor must understand the different characteristics of children between the ages of 5 and 12years old and can adapt the activities for different age groups and skill levels.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To be a caring adult and a role model for the children.
  2. To ensure that the physical and emotional safety of the children are met.
  3. To help children make new friends.
  4. To provide a variety of activities for different age groups and skill levels.
  5. To welcome diversity and uniqueness.
  6. To be a team valuable team member amongst the day camp staff.
  7. To participate with the children as well as encourage participation from all children. Using a variety of methods to ensure the maximum participation is achieved. (i.e.: smaller groups, more equipment, maximum use of space).
  8. To abide by Day Camp Policies and Procedures (see Policy & Procedure Manual).
  9. To help in the preparation and evaluation of each day with other members of the day camp staff.
  10. To participate in a mid-camp evaluation as well as a yearend evaluation of the program.
  11. To perform other duties as required.

Day Camp Director

Description Overview
The position of Day Camp Director is to ensure that the overall Day camp program is meeting the goals and objectives for the program. The Day Camp Director is the Day Camp team leader. Day Camp Director has the responsibility to ensure that all the children at the day camp have a positive recreation experience while in their care. This means that the children’s safety both physical and emotional are being met. The Day Camp Director has the responsibility to treat all children equally and offer programs and activities that are age and skill level appropriate. The Day Camp Director will be a caring adult and a role model for the children.

  5. To help children make new friends.
  6. To provide a variety of activities for different age groups and skill levels.
  7. To welcome diversity and uniqueness.
  8. To be a valuable team member amongst the day camp staff.

 Maintenance Assisstant

Position Status
Seasonal

Reporting
This position reports to the Field Maintenance Coordinator.

Description Overview
The Field Maintenance Assistant will be working with the Field Maintenance Coordinator to maintain all Municipally owned property as well as the mowing, grooming, trimming and lining of sports fields within the Municipality.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Weekly mowing and trimming of Municipally owned property
  2. Weekly mowing, trimming and grooming all 3 ballfields within the Municipality of Argyle
  3. Weekly lining of the soccer fields as per the schedule set out by the soccer club
  4. Weekly lining of the baseball fields as per the schedule set out by the baseball club
  5. Aerating, fertilizing and spreading of lime on the baseball fields as per the maintenance plan set out by the Recreation Department.
  6. Grooming, trimming and lining of the track and field for school and public track and field meets.
  7. General upkeep of maintenance equipment
  8. Reporting and documenting any unsafe play areas as per policy
  9. Clean-up of any debris/garbage that is observed at the sports fields and surrounding areas
  10. To perform other duties as required

Office Manager

Position Status
Seasonal. Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.  Overtime hours may be required.  Time in lieu shall be given for overtime hours.

Reporting
This position reports to Director of Recreation Services.

Description Overview
The Office Manager is responsible for the day to day general office administration duties, such as answering of phones, taking registrations, and scheduling of fields. The Office manager will have a good understanding of the online registration system (ActiveNet). The Office Manager will coordinate the recreation office staff schedule. The Office Manager will assist the other recreation staff in the promotion and registration of all recreation events.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To be a strong team player.
  2. To attend weekly internal meetings when possible.
  3. To be responsible for ballfield booking.
  4. To be responsible to update the Recreation Calendar on the Municipal website.
  5. To assist with the recruitment of coaches and officials.
  6. To update code of ethics for parent and coaches.
  7. To assist in development of a summer brochure for the Recreation events
  8. To be innovative.
  9. To be able to recruit volunteers when necessary.
  10. To be able to effectively use the recreation online registration system “ActiveNet”.
  11. To assist with the administration and promotion of recreation programs and events.
  12. To deal with the public in a professional manner.
  13. To assist the Sport Program Coordinator with the distribution and coordination of Jerseys and equipment.
  14. To be responsible for the jersey deposits.
  15. To ensure that South Shore Connect.ca is updated and to promote this website.
  16. To deal with the public in a professional manner.
  17. To update registrations forms and other resources as necessary with the assistance of the Director of Recreation Services.
  18. To perform other duties as required.

Outdoor Program Coordinator

Position Status
Seasonal. Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Due to the nature of Recreation, this person will be required to work some evenings and weekends. Time in lieu shall be given for overtime hours.

Reporting
This position reports to Director of Recreation Services.

Description Overview
Using the Municipality’s beautiful open spaces and natural playgrounds, the Outdoor Program Coordinator shall be responsible to coordinate recreation and physical activities programs which connects people to nature. The Outdoor Program Coordinator will work with different target groups such as families, youth, and seniors. The Outdoor Program coordinator will also be responsible in promoting the benefits of outdoor recreation to the public.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To plan, implement and evaluate Outdoor Recreation programs.
  2. To implement a promotional plan for outdoor education and its benefits.
  3. To work within the recreation budget.
  4. To be innovative and creative in using the existing open space and natural play area to implement outdoor programming.
  5. To be willing to take training if required.
  6. To attend weekly internal staff meetings.
  7. To document each program including recommendations for future planning.
  8. To be responsible for the promotion of Outdoor Recreation Programs.
  9. To be able to recruit volunteers when necessary.
  10. To be able to effectively use the recreation online registration system “ActiveNet”.
  11. To ensure that all events safety concerns have been address prior to implementation.
  12. To be responsible for event equipment and materials such as prizes if necessary.
  13. To assist with other recreation programs.
  14. To deal with the public in a professional manner.

Special Events Coordinator

Position Status

This position reports to Director of Recreation Services.

Description Overview
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of a variety of special events throughout the summer months. This position will work closely with the Sport Coordinator to establish a reasonable schedule of events for the 4-month period. The Special Event Coordinator will concentrate on target groups (i.e. Youth, families, senior etc.), as outlined by the Physical Activity Strategic Plan, the Recreation Strategic Plan, and the Active Transportation Plan.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To work within the budget for programs.
  2. To be a valuable team member.
  3. To attend weekly internal staff meetings.
  4. To plan, implement and evaluate special events.
  5. To be innovative in the special event programs.
  6. To document each event including recommendations for future planning.
  7. To be responsible for the promotion of recreation events.
  8. To be able to recruit volunteers when necessary.
  9. To be able to effectively use the recreation online registration system “ActiveNet”.

The position of Teen Camp Counselor has the responsibility to ensure that the Teen Camp Program is meeting the goals and objectives for the program. The Counsellor must ensure that all the youth at the Teen camp have a positive recreation experience while in their care. This means that the youth’s safety both physical and emotional are being met. The Teen Camp counselor has the responsibility to treat all children equally and offer programs and activities that are age and skill level appropriate.

The Teen Camp Counselor will be a caring adult and a role model for the participants. The Teen Camp Counselor will build into the activities ways for children to make friends while at Camp. The Counselor will also have knowledge and skills on how to manage conflict, bullying and intimidation. The Counselor must understand the different characteristics of youth between the ages of 11 to 15 and can adapt the activities for different skill levels.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To be a caring adult and a role model for the youth.
  2. To be the liaison between the camp and the parents.
  3. To ensure that the physical and emotional safety of the youth are met.
  4. To help youth make new friends.
  5. To provide a variety of activities for different age groups and skill levels.
  6. To welcome diversity and uniqueness.
  7. To be a team valuable team member amongst the staff.
  8. To participate with the youth as well as encourage participation them to try new activities.
  9. To abide by Camp Policies and Procedures (see Policy & Procedure Manual).
  10. To help in the preparation and evaluation of each day with other members of the camp staff.
  11. To participate in the evaluation of the program.
  12. To perform other duties as required.
